Fantasy Football Players to Avoid in 2009(AFC)Fantasy Football Careers That are Quickly Ending
A fantasy football career changes fast. A first round gem one year is waiver material the next. Don't hang on to those dying fantasy football careers if you want to win.
There comes a time when every player, even fantasy hall of famers, lose their value and become bench material or even worse, waived all together. Sometimes this comes with age, a new system, or possibly even injury. This may become hard for certain fantasy general managers to accept, but when you can take the fan out of fantasy decisions, the better off your fantasy football roster. Beware of these AFC players in the 2009 fantasy football draft (in no particular order) AFCBuffalo Bills- Josh Reed/WR- He hasn’t delivered big fantasy numbers in years, don’t waste your time. Miami Dolphins- Ernest Wilford/WR-Could be the biggest disappointment of all free agents signed in 2008. He has yet to deliver and maybe never will. New England Patriots- Lamont Jordan/RB, Laurence Maroney/RB- Jordan and Maroney hardly even stepped on the field in ’08. But you never know with Bill Belichick, one of these guys could blow up for 150yds in one game and not play again for 6 weeks. It’s your own fault for drafting a Patriots running back. NY Jets-Bubba Franks/TE- This isn’t Green Bay and with Dustin Keller emerging, Franks is a non factor in the future. Denver Broncos- Darrel Jackson/WR, Brandon Stokley/WR- They were great on other teams. For the Broncos they’ve been hit and miss, mostly miss. They’re both getting older too. Kansas City Chiefs-Tony Gonzalez/TE- This isn’t official yet, Gonzalez still put up decent numbers in ’08 for a terrible offense, but 2009 would be his 13th year. It’s gonna happen sometime. Oakland Raiders-Ashley Lelie/WR- It’s been over for quite sometime now. San Diego Chargers-Antonio Gates/TE- He isn’t officially on the list, not yet. Maybe it was just a bad season for the Chargers as a whole, but Gates was no where to be in their offensive game plans. Baltimore Ravens-Willis McGahee/RB, Derrick Mason/WR-McGahee will likely be a flex option at best in ’09. Mason would be okay if he played on an offense that could pass once in a while. Cincinnati Bengals-Cedric Benson/RB- Had all the potential in the world, notice had potential. Cleveland Browns-Joe Jurevicius/WR- Hasn’t been healthy since he played in Seattle. You can’t count on him for fantasy value. Pittsburgh Steelers-Mewelde Moore/RB- Every year someone will pick him up thinking he’ll get goaline carries. No he won’t! Houston Texans-Ahman Green/RB-This isn’t Green bay(once again). He is a shadow of his former fantasy self. Steve Slaton helped this along. Indianapolis Colts- Marvin Harrison/WR-He’s good for the fantasy bench or maybe a flex position. His numbers have drastically fallen off. Jacksonville Jaguars-Fred Taylor/RB, Jerry Porter/WR- Age and injury has caught up to both players. Acquire at your own risk. Tennessee Titans- Alge Crumpler/TE- Crumpler isn’t even the best fantasy TE option on his team. Bo Scaife takes away from his targets. For a list of players in the NFC, see part 2 of this article.
