Who's got the good matchups this week at quarterback? Who should you stay away from? Well, let's take a look.
Quarterback sleepersThese are players who might be on waivers or sitting on your bench that you might want to consider giving a look. Kyle Orton at AtlantaAtlanta's secondary has been a question mark all season, but has really been exposed the last couple of weeks. Orton has now had three multi-touchdown games and has certianly shown an ability to exploit bad defenses, passing for 334 yards against the Lions, even without Brandon Lloyd. Granted, Atlanta is not Detroit, but it could still be a good day for Orton Gus Frerotte vs. DetroitAt this point, can you sit anyone against the Detriot defense? Frerotte hasn't been asked to do much for the Vikings, and probably won't be asked to do much more than that against the Lions, but considering how many big plays the Lions give up, Frerotte could hit a couple of home runs. If nothing else, he'll be a solid option and shouldn't hurt you if you're in need of a bye week fill in. Carson Palmer at New York JetsPalmer has looked much better the past two games and has a soft matchup in the Jets. Palmer has had success against the Jets in the past, posting a 102.3 passer rating in two meetings. On top of that, the Jets have been pretty awful against the pass this year, giving up 265 yards per game. Given the state of both defenses, this could be a shootout in the Garden State. Matt Cassel at San DiegoSan Diego is still giving up 40 points per game and are the worst in the league statistically against the pass. The Patriots are getting back to a lot of the screen plays and ball control that worked so well for the team in years past and Cassel seems to fit that offense well. Lat week, he managed an offense that had the ball for nearly 40 minutes. He also got Randy Moss involved in the offense, including a 66-yard touchdown. Cassel will never be guaranteed a good game, but it's at least a good matchup. David Garrard at Denver After a couple of flops in Weeks 2 and 3, Garrard rebounded with solid performances against Houston and a very tough Pittsburgh defense. This week he faces a Denver team that still hasn't proven they can stop anybody, sitting at 29th in the league in yards allowed on defense. Quarterbacks to avoidThese are guys who really have unfavorable matchups that you will want to stay away from if at all possible. Marc Bulger at Washington Washington hasn't been incredible against the pass, but to be fair to the Redskins, they have faced four of the toughest teams to defend against the pass their last four games. The offense that Marc Bulger quarterbacks is nowhere near as good. On top of that, Washington is one of the best teams in the league at keeping its opponents' offenses off the field, dominating time of possession. Peyton Manning vs. Baltimore Baltimore has been by far the best team in the league against the pass, allowing only three touchdowns in four games. Teams are completing just 46 percent of their passes against the Ravens. While the Colts have shown flashes of brilliance, especially with the game on the line, it's hard to recommend any quarterback going against Baltimore. J.T. O'Sullivan vs. PhiladelphiaWhat a terribly scary matchup for O'Sullivan as the most sacked quarterback in the league faces a blitz-happy Eagles team that is tied for the league lead in sacks. O'Sullivan exploited a weak Patriots secondary fro three touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions and completed just 48 percent of his passes. Matt Schaub vs. MiamiSchaub had to be scratched from last week's start because he spend the night in the hospital with an illness and he was forced to stand by and watch Sage Rosenfels blow the game with less than five minutes left to play. He dodged the dreaded quarterback controversey, but now faces a Miami team that has been playing some terrific defense lately, most notably shutting down Philip Rivers in a big win last week.
