For 2009 fantasy football drafts, it will be just as important as ever to grab a quarterback that can help carry a couple of offensive categories for the full season.

The 2009 fantasy football draft season is just about underway, and excitement is growing. This year it will be very important to get one of the best quarterbacks early on to ensure some offensive stability throughout the season. This is a list of the best quarterbacks available in the 2009 fantasy football draft. Depending on the type of league, it may be important to focus on yardage, touchdowns, and passer rating, with most leagues focused on the offensive numbers the best quarterbacks in the league can post.

Top Ranked Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

The reason that Drew Brees could be considered the best fantasy football quarterback in 2009 stems from his amazing statistical output. During the 2008 season, Drew Brees threw for 5069 yards and racked up 34 touchdown passes. That is almost 500 yards more than the closest passer, but he also comes with the risk of interception. To go with his 34 touchdowns, he also had 17 interceptions, so leagues that count those against the score could provide a risk for Brees owners. For leagues just focused on offense, Brees is a free-throwing quarterback that could continue to put up big numbers.

Phillip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

Rivers had what could be called an off-season for the Chargers in 2008, but still put up amazing numbers at the quarterback position. Rivers threw for 4009 yards and also had 34 touchdown passes, but was able to limit himself to only 11 interceptions. Rivers also posted the best passer rating in the game with a 105.5 rating for the 2008 season, showing that he can do a lot with very little. Look for Rivers to actually increase his output in the 2009 season, and he could be a steal if people are looking past him towards some of the bigger names in the NFL.

Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts

Some fear that Manning is getting a little older, but he can still put up statistics with the best quarterbacks in the game. He should be expected to put up another 4000 yard passing, 30+ touchdown season in 2009, and if those are stats that sound good on a fantasy football team, he is someone who should be drafted in the late first round of any fantasy football draft. Manning has a lot to prove in 2009, and with a great offensive line returning, he could really put up the stats during this campaign.

The Wild Card Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

These are the quarterbacks that could potentially put up big numbers, but who could also fall very flat if they suffer injuries, don't come back to form, or simply don't pan out like their new teams would hope. They come with risk, but could also be some of the best fantasy football sleepers this season.

Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks

With a new receiver core, and a healthy knee, Hasselbeck could be a monster in the offensive statistics this season, but that is only if he can stay healthy.

Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals

Warner showed he still had it in 2008 by taking Arizona to the Super Bowl, but he is a question mark about being able to repeat that performance. He could put up huge statistics if he can be consistent early on in the 2009 campaign.

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

Cutler has a new team, and with it the hope that he can live up to all of his promise. If he can gel right away, and his receivers can hold on to the ball, he could be a very valuable fantasy football quarterback.

Tom Brady, New England Patriots

Brady missed the 2008 season after an injury in the first game, and thus is a question mark coming into the 2009 fantasy football season. If he returns to form, he could be a very valuable fantasy football QB this season, and a must-have on fantasy teams. He has to be watched closely though, to see if he is back to speed, but if he is, he could be a top 5 pick in the 2009 fantasy football drafts.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Rodgers has really been coming in to his own, but has been called inconsistent in the past. He put up 4038 passing yards in 2008, so he can be for real, but he could also go the other direction as well with a weak offensive line in Green Bay. If the line can protect him a little better, Rodgers could be a real diamond in the rough in 2009.
