With fantasy football heading toward the playoffs, don't be afraid to pick up an extra defense for matchup purposes.

Fantasy defenses (D/ST counting special teams) are all about matchups and it's important to know which teams to play each week.

Note: The Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles all won games earlier in the week and the first two would have been highly ranked for fantasy defense purposes but those games have already been played.

These fantasy defense rankings are for Sunday purposes only.

Week 13 Fantasy Defense/Special Teams Rankings

1. Baltimore Ravens-

With no Carson Palmer, a bad running game featuring some poor talent at running back, and a bad team in general capable of making big-time mistakes leading to big-time plays in Cincinnati, the Ravens' fantasy defense is in line for some big week 13 points so they should be considered a must-start.

2. Miami Dolphins-

Taking on the St. Louis Rams could be a fantasy feast for the Dolphins. Their defense has holes but it also has some big-time play-makers and should be able to get some consistent pressure in week 13.

3. Oakland Raiders-

Against the Chiefs at home this week. They could score a lot of points or have an average or worse game but they are worth the gamble this week.

4. New York Giants-

At Washington this week with Clinton Portis a bit ailing but still effective. Still, a few sacks and turnovers are a good bet for week 13 for the Giants' defense and special teams.

5. Chicago Bears-

At Minnesota this week, the Bears usually D up well against the Vikings.

6. Minnesota Vikings-

The Bears' offense doesn't scare anybody right now making this a likely defensive struggle in week 13 favoring both defensive units.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers-

New England could score a lot but expect INT's and sacks by the aggressive Pittsburgh defense starting with their powerful front seven this week in Foxboro.

8. New England Patriots-

Against the mediocre Steelers o-line, the Patriots are a good bet to get their fair share of fantasy defense points in week 13 where the matchups favor mostly favor the offenses.

9. Buffalo Bills-

Not a great defensive unit but the San Francisco 49ers are prone to big mistakes as the season winds down and they lose a bit of trust in Mike Martz's QB unfriendly schemes.

10. Houston Texans-

At home, Houston can keep the Jaguars off the scoreboard. The Jags are teetering on the brink of disaster and that could force QB David Garrard to play outside of himself instead of managing the game the way he usually does, leading to some possible INT's and sacks by the Texans fantasy defense in week 13.

11. Green Bay Packers

12. Tampa Bay Bucs

13. Jacksonville Jaguars

14. Kansas City Chiefs

15. Cleveland Browns
